How romantic relationships affect individual career goal attainment: A transactive goal dynamics perspective

Despite the importance of career goals for self-management, we know little about self-regulatory processes underlying goal attainment. In this study, draw on transactive dynamics theory to investigate whether and how romantic relationships impact For testing our research model, focused being successful in a political election, gathered survey objective data from politicians at three measurement points (N = 108). As hypothesized, path analysis showed that relationship closeness facilitated attainment through shared an increase available pool resources. We further explored moderating role coordination process, found high conflict undermined indirect effect whereas facilitation had no effect. Finally, support hypothesized duration Our findings indicate can facilitate partners' is relevant boundary condition process. study thus highlights value integrating work-home research. Practically, results imply individuals should gain their partner's goals, supervisors employees' development by enabling them capitalize home-domain resources such as relationship. According findings, counselors assist clients' self-management preventing conflicts with partner.
